This type of ceremony is performed by various people who are somehow important to the bride and groom. One of the duties of both the maid of honor and the best man is to give a speech on behalf of the couple. Other members of the bridal party or close family and friends may also want to give wedding speeches during the reception ceremony for the couple. Couples can choose to have an open forum where anyone is able to give a speech during their reception or stick with a set list of people they would like to give a speech which may include the father of the bride.
Deciding who should give wedding speeches really depends on the preferences of the bride and groom. Some want their family members and closest friends to give a speech while others are simply unsure so they choose to allow anyone to give a speech. Since this is the special day for the couple, it does not matter which path is chosen. Most people are willing to give wedding speeches if they are exceptionally close to the bride and/ or groom and wish to share their story of how the couple has
affected their life with the guests..
Speech Etiquette
This type of ceremony consist of three parts -the introduction, the main speech and the toast. When a speaker draws the attention of the room they should first give a few sentences about who they are and why they are important to the bride and groom. From there it is customary for speakers to lead into wedding speeches with a story about the couple, a joke, a poem or even a quote that reminds them of the relationship between the two people who have gotten married that day. Wedding speeches should be under 10 minutes and should keep the guests entertained. For the main part of the speech, it is important that the speaker talk about his or her own well wishes for the couple. Finally, wedding speeches should come to a close with a toast for the bride and groom.
Toasting
The last part of ceremony is the toast. Guests should be served champagne before the toasts begin. This type of ceremony can be spread throughout the reception or can be completed all at once during the meal. To start a toast the speaker should ask the guests to raise their glass and close the speech with a few statements of happy thoughts for the future and "cheers".
Children
It is always special to involve children in a wedding. More and more couples today are allowing children to attend weddings. It is the responsibility of the bride and groom to plan for ways to entertain the children during this type of ceremony. Typically a couple will plan to have crayons or pencils and activity books at the entrance that parents can grab for their child. During the wedding speeches, the children should also be served juice, sparkling water or even milk so that they also can take part in the wedding toasts.
